Vestibular Therapy
Vestibular Therapy Near Lafayette, Indiana
Frequently feeling dizzy or unsteady can make daily life more difficult and dangerous for older adults. These symptoms increase the likelihood of falls, which are a leading cause of injury and hospitalization among seniors. Older adults with balance problems may also experience fear of falling, which can limit their independence and keep them from doing the things they enjoy.
Through vestibular therapy, Mulberry Health helps seniors improve their balance and reduce their risk of falls. Our in-house therapists provide structured, one-on-one treatment in a safe, nurturing setting.
If you’re looking for vestibular therapy for seniors, please get in touch. Our team is ready to answer your questions and explain how we can help.
Vestibular Therapy for Seniors: What to Expect
Vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) is a form of treatment used to address problems in the vestibular system, the part of the inner ear and brain that controls balance and spatial orientation. It is designed to help adults with balance issues caused by conditions and injuries such as vertigo, inner ear disorders, stroke, and Ménière’s disease. The goal is to reduce dizziness and related symptoms so that everyday activities feel safer and more manageable.
Before VRT treatment can begin, each patient undergoes a thorough evaluation by a licensed therapist. Based on the results, we create a plan that may include movement practice, eye-head coordination work, and balance therapy to improve stability.
Over time, VRT sessions can improve patients’ quality of life by making it easier for them to do their daily routines and helping them regain confidence in their ability to walk and stand independently.
Here’s what patients and their families can expect when a patient begins VRT at Mulberry Health:
- One-on-one VRT sessions with licensed therapists
- Evaluation and care planning with realistic goals
- Comfortable and safe therapy environment close to home
- Coordination with short-term rehab, outpatient, or long-term care services
“I’m an LPN at IU Frankfort, and I’m excited to get back to my normal job. I’m getting better with therapy at Mulberry Health so much faster than I would at home.”
SHORT-TERM REHAB
Through our short-term rehabilitation program, patients recovering from stroke, illness, or surgery may take part in balance therapy to prepare for a safe return home. Our therapy team provides structured therapy that strengthens coordination and restores confidence in everyday movement. Every care plan is goal-oriented and adjusted based on progress.
LONG-TERM CARE
Seniors living in our long-term care community can receive vestibular therapy as part of their care plan. Our residents also benefit from assistance with activities of daily living (ADL) and 24/7 nursing home care. We focus on helping each person maintain as much mobility and independence as possible.
OUTPATIENT THERAPY
Our vestibular physical therapy services are also available on an outpatient basis. Older adults living at home can come in for scheduled sessions and receive high-quality care in our facility. It’s a convenient option for families in the Lafayette area.
INDEPENDENT LIVING
Independent living residents at the Cottages of Mulberry can access vestibular therapy for seniors as needed. Therapy sessions are provided on-site, making it easy to get care without disrupting daily routines. Seniors can work on balance and stability while enjoying the comfort and freedom of their home environment.
